Topfield creates Personal Video Recorders (PVR), which can be used to receive and record digital television channels. Also music (MP3) can be listened with Topfield products. Topfield features can be enhanced and corrected with TAPs (Topfield Application Programs). It is for example possible to watch digital camera images (e.g. jpg) and timers can be created automatically by search words using TAPs. It is also possible to correct bugs with 3rd party patches. This site lists all TAPs and patches developed for Topfield.

Extends the EPG programme description text that is visible to TAPs by returning a longer programme description (up to 256 characters) in the EPG extended data.

Changes since 2.1:
  • Alternate character set support.
  • Masterpeice compatible options screen.
  • TF5700HDMI genre support.

DescriptionExtender does not work with newest Finnish and Swedish firmwares and as far as I know FWs has been changed too much so Simon will (or can) not create new version for these FWs.

Wrong firmware?
DE 2.23 will not start on my TF5700 PVRt (not HDMI). 
Message says to contact author with these codes: 
2426, 1477, 1909F4, 190EF0. 
Firmware version is TF-NPTs 3.17 (Jan 09 2008). 
How can I make it work???

TAP should be installed into Auto Start if it is wanted to be used automatically after reboot.

Beginner needs help. Where do I install this? ProgramFiles or Auto Start file?

Working fine
Really useful TAP. I use it with Topfield original EPG and it gives me all description information that local cable operator offers :)

Really great tap
This tap helps to get around a bug in topfield. Normally only first 128 characters of program descriptions are shown. With this tap you can see the whole description. Works fine with most of EPG / infobox taps. Might take few days after the launch of new firmware when it works ok with DescriptionExtender.
