Topfield creates Personal Video Recorders (PVR), which can be used to receive and record digital television channels. Also music (MP3) can be listened with Topfield products. Topfield features can be enhanced and corrected with TAPs (Topfield Application Programs). It is for example possible to watch digital camera images (e.g. jpg) and timers can be created automatically by search words using TAPs. It is also possible to correct bugs with 3rd party patches. This site lists all TAPs and patches developed for Topfield.

Some TV sets switch automatically to AV input (SCART) if pin 8 of the SCART connector provides a voltage. If Topfield  wakes up from standby to perform a timer recording, the signal from the TV tuner will be interrupted and the TV set shows the live video from the STB. To switch back to the TV tuner, one has to press the TV/STB button on the RCU. In that case, unfortunately, the STB will not switch off again after the recording has ended because a button was pressed.

This program automatically switches to TV mode if the STB woke up from standby to perform a timer recording and allows the STB to switch off after the recording has ended.
